Gutter Maintenance FAQs

Will I ever have to brush debris off of LeafFilter™?

If debris tends to sit on the edge of your roof, then it will also sit on LeafFilter™. Many gutter guard companies say that “the wind always blows debris off.” This is not always the case for them or for us. You shouldn’t have to brush debris off of LeafFilter™ in order for it to direct water into your gutters. But, if you currently brush leaves off of your roof, then for purely aesthetic reasons you’ll also need to brush them off of LeafFilter™.

Can sticks fall and tear the LeafFilter™ Stainless Steel Micro-Filtration System membrane? Or can ice slide off of a roof, catch and rip it?

We haven’t witnessed LeafFilter™ tearing during our attempt to simulate a stick dropping on the LeafFilter™ Stainless Steel Micro-Filtration System. We’ve never received reports or complaints of LeafFilter™ tearing from falling debris, but that doesn’t mean it will never happen. Your gutter will NEVER CLOG even with a small tear in the LeafFilter™ Stainless Steel Micro-Filtration System membrane. Also, your LeafFilter™ dealer can easily repair most tears.

How does the LeafFilter™ Stainless Steel Micro-Filtration System handle smaller debris like pine needles and shingle grit?

The LeafFilter™ Stainless Steel Micro-Filtration System has microscopic holes that do not permanently hold or trap organic debris. It’s nearly 100% water permeable and has self-cleaning properties that help it shed clogging agents like shingle grit and other small debris. However, we have had instances in high pollen areas where the membrane requires refreshing. This can be done by wiping the LeafFilter™ Stainless Steel Micro-Filtration System with a brush using a water and light dish soap solution.
